Welcome to Malaga Drilling School
Malaga Drilling School
We are an oil and gas drilling industry training organization providing internationally recognised examination facilities and drilling and well control courses that include drilling equipment, drilling practices and technology, well control, and other drilling industry technical training in English, Spanish and other languages.
In addition to the regular training courses required in the industry, Malaga Drilling School also provides courses customised to client’s requirements, including drilling technical courses, competence, management, leadership and HSE courses in whichever language the client prefers. The school is run by long standing drilling industry professionals, Rig Hands who have spent a considerable portion of their lives on both land and offshore rigs and are highly trained and experienced in the requirements of their fellow professionals.
They are advised and assisted by a specialist in industrial teaching, education and instructional methods. Well control courses held at Malaga Drilling School are accredited by the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) and International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC WellCAP).
At Malaga Drilling School, you can combine off-rig training time with a dream Mediterranean holiday! In order to assist you with planning and making the most of your entire trip during your drilling course, these pages contain helpful, time saving information and links about the Torremolinos and Malaga region and examples of some of the numerous leisure facilities that can be enjoyed during your stay.
Family - friendly Drilling Courses in Malaga….
a modern approach.
Pete Blakeston, the manager of Malaga Drilling School, has been regularly attending oil and gas drilling courses around the world since 1975. His extensive experience and feedback gathered from drilling delegates from all over the world, bore him the vision for a drilling school that offered a location with a better balance between study and leisure time.
Prior to the formation of Malaga Drilling School, many of the training locations were often considered by delegates as difficult to reach or remote and poorly serviced. The high cost of accommodation, poor weather and few ways to relax after classes at these drilling schools often meant that delegates could not consider bringing their partners or families.
In response to this need and his personal ambition to offer quality training to the drilling industry, Pete selected Malaga for the same reasons that many other organizations are choosing this area for their corporate venues.
Malaga Drilling School…a cosmopolitan venue
The diversity of reasonably priced flight and hotel room choices, the year round pleasant climate and endless leisure facilities, the relaxed atmosphere, rich culture and warm hospitality have resulted in Malaga becoming one of Europe’s top corporate venues. Many educational and business organizations now choose this venue for seminars, conferences, training courses and other corporate events. Now training course delegates within the drilling industry can also enjoy all that the Costa del Sol has to offer visitors.
Conveniently situated 10 minutes drive from Malaga International airport; Malaga Drilling School has a prime location in the business and shopping centre of Torremolinos, just minutes from the beach and attractions and surrounded by a multitude of hotels and restaurants of every description.
The location for the Malaga Drilling School was specifically chosen to avoid delegates having to spend a large portion of their valuable time travelling to and from the training centre.
European Drilling Courses….now easily accessible
Large numbers of resident expats, business tourists and holidaymakers have generated a huge demand for direct flights to Malaga, which has turned it into Europe’s most accessible destination. Most drilling school delegates are surprised to learn that there are direct flights to Malaga from more European destinations than there are to London Heathrow. In fact, there are regular direct flights that drilling course delegates can take to Malaga from 87 European airports compared to Heathrow with 62 European destinations or Aberdeen with 20. Another surprise is the number of direct flights from mainland UK airports with 24 to Malaga yet only 8 to Heathrow and 13 to Aberdeen.
Where to stay during your drilling training courses
There is a huge choice of superior international standard hotels in Torremolinos alone and an astonishing availability of quality hotels, villas, apartments and B & B’s in the surrounding towns and resorts, at prices that are considerably lower than the rest of Europe. Delegates studying at Malaga Drilling School will have no problem finding a hotel or accommodation that suits their every need. Please see the Hotels and Accommodation page for more information.
Malaga Drilling School….offers a climate to truly enjoy.
Off-rig training courses can often turn into a frustrating disruption of hard earned home life and long periods spent on offshore rigs or remote land rigs can induce the real need for a good all round battery charging break The Mediterranean climate of warm, sun soaked summers and mild, mainly dry winters, provides the perfect environment for an enjoyable combination of relaxation and study.
In the summer (June, July, August and September) the temperature generally averages a very pleasant 35ºC. Don’t forget to pack your bathing costume, sun cream and sunglasses!
If you are planning to take one of our drilling courses during the winter months, warmer clothing is recommended but adverse weather conditions are very rare… Malaga is renowned for having the best climate on the European mainland.
Malaga Drilling School…facilitates 5 star relaxation!
There is plenty to do on the Costa del Sol and for that reason many people who travel here for business reasons also bring their partners with them allowing them to enjoy their evenings together. After your day studying at the drilling school, what better way to relax than to take a walk along the sea front promenade or sit at a beach café enjoying a coffee or sampling local cuisine? Why not book a round of golf, take a swim in the Mediterranean, or relax with a massage at the hotel spa.
Gone are the days when drilling industry training courses were looked upon as little more than an extension of time on the rig. Today’s more enlightened industry recognizes that family life and personal wellbeing can influence safety and performance. So why not consider taking your partner or even the kids? Here in Malaga, family breaks are not exhaustive on the pocket. In fact most hotel rooms are doubles, so it costs very little more for a couple than it does for a single person.
The Costa del Sol is a golfer’s paradise which boasts over 50 top class courses that have earned it the title of Costa del Golf. Please see our Golf and Leisure pages to find all the information you may require about golf and other activities in the area.
